What Kind of Competencies Do Primary and Secondary School Mental Health Education Teachers Need in the New Era:Theoretical Constructs and Measurements

Abstract
The fundamental task of fostering virtue through education in the new era puts forward higher requirements for the professional competencies of primary and secondary school mental health education teachers.The interview method,Delphi method and questionnaire were used in this study to construct the index system of the professional competencies of mental health education teachers in primary and secondary schools in China,and a validated measurement tool was developed and administered to 2502 teachers.Results showed that the professional competencies of school mental health education teachers in China include educational competencies,disciplinary competencies,cultural nurturing competencies,supportive compe-tencies,and learning and research competencies,which form a concentric-circle growth model.The developed questionnaire has excellent performance and can be effectively used in the cultivation and evaluation of school mental health education teachers.The competencies of school mental health education teachers is generally in the middle to upper range,but the level of specific competencies varies.There are significant differences between full-time and part-time teachers,as well as teachers in different school levels.The results of the study have important empirical value for improving the professional competencies of primary and secondary school mental health education teachers and promoting the development of students' mental health.关键词
