Abstract

To explore novel,excellent-adsorption and renewable materials for syrup decolorization,a magnesia-Pueraria lobata based porous activated carbon composite was prepared using Pueraria lobata as the raw material through chemical precipitation-in situ composition method,involving carbonization and activation steps.The composite was characterized by SEM,FTIR,XRD,and BET,and its application in syrup decolorization was investigated.Results showed that the composite possessed both MgO alkaline sites and a high specific surface area(656.28 m2/g)of activated carbon,with a well-developed pore structure providing abundant sites for pigment adsorption.Single-factor and orthogonal tests determined the optimal decolorization process for brown sugar remelt syrup:composite dosage 0.70 g,pH 10.0,temperature 60 ℃,and time 50 min.Under these conditions,the decolorization rate reached 96.7%,outperforming Pueraria lobata based porous activated carbon and commercial MgO.After regeneration,the composite maintained a decolorization efficiency of 57.0%,demonstrating good renewability and economic potential.This study provides an efficient and economical decolorization solution for the sugar industry.
