Dilemmas and Breakthroughs:A Self-ethnography of Class Mobility Journey by a Rural Working-class Girl

Abstract
Employing self-ethnography as its methodological approach,this article centers on the author's educational experience as a member of the rural underclass to systematically examine the practical dilemmas and breakthrough path-ways for rural students striving for class mobility through education within China's urban-rural dual structure.The study reveals that disadvantaged groups face threefold"dilemmas"in the educational field:(1)initial inequality stemming from structural resource deprivation,(2)implicit exclusion arising from cultural capital deficiency,and(3)loss of subjectivity under utilitarian educational paradigms.Through in-depth description of the author's academic journey,the research iden-tifies"breakthrough"mechanisms manifesting as a tripartite dialectical logic:at the individual level,"reflexive resistance"reconstructs habitus;at the family level,"moralized motivation"activates informal support networks;at the school level,"knowledge transmission"facilitates class reproduction;at the societal level,breakthroughs rely on state policy compensati-on and intervention by key actors.The study further argues that educational mobility is inherently a dynamic process of mutual construction between structural constraints and individual agency,whose success hinges on the interplay of culti-vated cultural consciousness and systemic institutional empowerment.This article provides empirical evidence from a sub-altern perspective for understanding the micro-mechanisms of educational equity in China and offers theoretical implica-tions for optimizing rural education policies within the context of rural revitalization.关键词
