Abstract

The rise,introspection,and reconstruction of Michael Young's view of knowledge and tutorial theory is marked by a shift from social constructivism to social realism.Initially,his epistemological perspective sought to challenge the traditional realist view of knowledge through social constructivism,this shift can be seen as a philosophical move to-ward"existentia",as social constructivism was heavily influenced by postmodernist thought,which itself developed along existentialist lines.However,the relativistic flaws of postmodernism also led the social constructivist view of knowledge in-to the pitfalls of knowledge arbitrariness and reductionism.In response to this challenge,Michael Young began to reflect on the limitations of social constructivism.Ultimately,under the influence of Durkheim's ideas,he developed the concept of"social realism"in his view of knowledge.His philosophical approach attempts to integrate the essence of both essentia and existentia philosophies,aiming for a higher level of synthesis and reconstruction.In summary,his philosophical path transitioned from"essentia"to"existentia",culminating in the fusion of both.The development of Michael Young's knowl-edge theory represents a dialectical process of negation of negation,in which the final synthesis transcends the longstand-ing binary opposition between essentia and existential.Michael Young's view of knowledge has reflective value for China's educational reform in both theory and practice and offers important insights for building an autonomous knowledge sys-tem in Chinese education.This process serves not only as a reference for the development of Young's epistemology but al-so as a profound reflection on the future of Chinese educational development.In constructing a discourse system for Chi-nese education,it is essential to be rooted in the unique practices of Chinese education while continuously drawing from China's cultural and philosophical traditions.Only by doing so can we create an educational discourse system that is both practically dynamic and distinctly representative of Chinese cultural identity.
