Abstract

A small-volume receiving transducer has been developed to meet the requirements of wide bandwidth and high sensitivity for receiving transducer arrays needed for underwater frogmen and sonar systems in submarines.This transducer effectively expands the transducer bandwidth and improves the receiving sensitivity by multimode coupling,and by applying a metal plate and a matching layer.Firstly,the relationship between the height and resonant frequency of the piezoelectric sensitive element was analyzed by theoretical analysis.Secondly,the height difference between the two sides was analyzed to understand their effect on the bandwidth and receiving sensitivity by finite element analysis,and the size of the sensitive element was optimized according to the simulation results.Through processes such as piezoelectric ceramic cutting,matching layer application and potting fabrication,several transducers were fabricated with small volume,broad bandwidth,and high sensitivity.The tested transducers have a receiver sensitivity of about-172 dB and a bandwidth of about 12 kHz at-3 dB,and their superior performance and small size have a very promising application in receiver sensor arrays.
