Growth Performance of Offspring in Half-sibling Families of Quercus mongolica Fisch.ex Ledeb.at the Seedling Stage

Abstract
[Objective]To grasp the genetic variation of Quercus mongolica families from different provenances in Heilongjiang Province and provide a scientific basis for the selection of superior families or the breeding of improved varieties.[Methods]A completely randomized block experiment was conducted using 19 Quercus mongolica families as test materials to measure the phenotypic values of growth traits during shoot elongation and winter dormancy for each family.Nested variance analysis was employed to analyze the variation patterns in the growth rhythm of Quercus mongolica.Information on climatic and environmental factors from various provenances was collected,and the Pearson method was used to analyze the correlations between growth traits and between growth traits and geographical and climatic factors.Cluster analysis was performed on the growth traits of the tested Quercus mongolica families to comprehensively evaluate their growth types.Early selection evaluation of Quercus mongolica was conducted using principal component analysis.[Results]Except for some traits during the second shoot elongation,significant differences(P<0.01)were observed in the traits of different Quercus mongolica families at the seedling stage.The phenotypic coefficient of variation for each trait ranged from 5.97%to 76.77%,and the heritability of traits ranged from 0.334 to 0.888.Most seedling-stage traits of Quercus mongolica exhibited significant positive correlations,and there were notable correlations between shoot elongation traits and the altitude,annual mean temperature,and annual mean precipitation of the provenance.The 19 Quercus mongolica families were classified into four groups through cluster analysis.Three families with excellent seedling-stage performance were selected from the 19 families,namely,the MD-3 family,MD-2 family,and JX-3 family.[Conclusion]The Quercus mongolica resources in Heilongjiang exhibit relatively rich genetic diversity,with a high degree of variation among populations from different provenances or families.Growth traits are moderately to strongly genetically controlled by families and show significant correlations.It is preliminarily believed that early selection at the one-year-old stage may have a relatively high accuracy.Three superior families have been preliminarily selected as materials for further genetic improvement.关键词
