Abstract

The Curriculum Program for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)includes interdisciplinary thematic learning activities,establishing interdisciplinary teaching as a core responsibility for primary and secondary school teachers.A strong foundation in interdisciplinary teaching competencies is crucial for the effective implementation and advancement of such teaching practices.Based on survey data from 1 845 primary and secondary school mathematics teachers in the ethnic settlement areas of two provinces(autonomous regions)in China,G and X,the basic situation of interdisciplinary instruction competency among primary and secondary school mathematics teachers in ethnic regions in China was examined.The study found that the overall level of interdisciplinary instruction competency among these teachers was good,but their interdisciplinary teaching knowledge and abilities were relatively low.In ethnic regions,the interdisciplinary instruction competency of male teachers was significantly higher than that of female teachers;teachers with college education or less had significantly higher literacy than those with a bachelor's degree;and primary school teachers had significantly higher literacy than junior high school teachers.There were no significant differences in terms of job title and years of teaching experience.Additionally,rural primary and secondary school mathematics teachers demonstrated significantly higher interdisciplinary teaching knowledge and abilities compared to their counterparts in city(county)schools.Furthermore,significant differences in interdisciplinary instruction competency were observed among mathematics teachers in ethnic-populated areas across different provinces.These findings provide important references for the implementation of the new round of basic education mathematics curriculum reform in ethnic areas in China.
