摘要

Abstract

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol sweetener extracted from plants.It has been widely used in the food industry as a substitute for sucrose due to its low-calorie content and low glycemic index.In addition to its well-established benefits for oral health,xylitol has demonstrated a range of health-promoting effects,including regulation of human metabolism,improvement of gut microbiota,reduction of blood glucose levels,modulation of blood lipids,and support for weight management.During hepatic metabolism,xylitol also exhibits unique physiological functions,such as enhancing insulin sensitivity,reducing visceral fat accumulation,and showing potential in the prevention and treatment of fatty liver disease.However,individual differences in tolerance to xylitol are observed,and its solubility and gastrointestinal metabolic properties may affect its effectiveness across different applications.Therefore,this review aimed to summarize the metabolic characteristics,physiological functions,current application status,and safety considerations of xylitol,providing a reference for further research of xylitol in food science and related fields.
