Submillisecond-response self-powered water quality detection sensor based on a droplet generator

Abstract
Developing a sustainable and in-situ responsive water quality monitoring method is of great significance for the efficient utilization of global water resources and water quality management practices.However,conventional water quality monitoring sensors still face challenges such as slow response speeds,complex structures,and limited application scenarios.To address these challenges,an ultra-fast response water quality sensor based on a droplet-based electricity generator was proposed in this study.The sensor is composed of a polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)film and copper electrodes.The mechanical energy of falling droplets is converted into a voltage pulse signal with a steep rising edge through the rapid contact between droplets and electrodes,thus enabling the fast detection of water quality conditions.The experimental results show that the proposed water quality sensor delivers output voltages of 35 V and 112 V under deionized water and tap water conditions,respectively,with a response time of only 500 μs.When droplets containing 5%(volume fraction)oil or acidic droplets with a pH of 4 were tested,the peak output voltage decreased by 57%and 30%,respectively.These results demonstrate that the sensor exhibits high sensitivity to changes in oil content and pH.In addition,the sensor possesses excellent self-powered characteristics and portability,thereby exhibiting broad application prospects in the rapid detection and early warning of environmental water pollution.关键词
