Abstract

The professionalization of homeroom teachers(banzhuren)is an important pathway for promoting individual teacher development,driving the high-quality development of the teaching workforce,and contributing to the building of a leading country in education.Policies on homeroom teachers in different historical periods have shouldered distinct historical missions and laid a solid foundation for the professionalization of homeroom teachers in China.Since entering the new era,in order to meet the strategic requirements of building a leading country in education and cultivate a cohort of educationalist homeroom teachers,it is necessary to start from the professional work and duties of homeroom teachers in class management,re-examine and reconstruct the connotation of homeroom teacher professionalization,and clearly articulate its significant role in the construction of the teaching workforce.With respect to the developmental dimensions and enhancement strategies of homeroom teacher professionalization,efforts should be made in three key dimensions—standardizing the professional roles of homeroom teachers,enhancing their professional competencies,and establishing professional standards for homeroom teachers—so as to effectively advance the process of homeroom teacher professionalization.
