Abstract

Based on the STEAM education model,this paper aims to explore the integration level and effectiveness of"function"content with other disciplines in Chinese and French high school mathematics textbooks.A framework for evaluating the interdisciplinary content of the two editions of textbooks is constructed from five dimensions:discipline source,content type,presentation mode,presentation location,and setting purpose.The study finds that there are significant differences between the textbooks of the two countries across all five dimensions;both attach importance to interdisciplinary content in the field of art,and French textbooks pay more attention to the field of engineering;the"Shared"content type is the most prevalent,while Chinese textbooks feature fewer highly integrated types;most content is presented in"exercises";"paragraphs"are the most commonly used textual presentation mode in the two editions of textbooks,while Chinese textbooks feature fewer accompanying illustrations;and"application"is the most important setting purpose for textbooks of both countries.The enlightenment is that in the setting of interdisciplinary content in high school mathematics textbooks in China,we should enrich the interdisciplinary content in the fields of technology and engineering;increase the proportion of"Webbed"and"Threaded"content type;incorporating more image-based interdisciplinary content;and appropriately adding columns of inquiry-based interdisciplinary content.
