A Study on the Students'Use Level of Mathematics Textbooks from the Perspective of Reader-Oriented Theory

Abstract

students'use of textbook facilitates deep learning and the development of core competencies,yet empirical research on the level of mathematics textbook utilization remains scarce.Therefore,based on reader response theory,this study,taking the junior high school mathematics textbook published by People's Education Press as an example,compiled the questionnaire to investigate 1,823 students across eight provinces in China and some students were selected for doing the focus interview.Through descriptive statistics,cluster analysis,difference tests and text induction,it is found that most students use mathematics textbooks at a moderate level and their textbook use awareness and ability need to be improved.There are region and grade differences in students'use level of mathematics textbooks,and curriculum resources and academic pressure are the important influencing factors.In the future,textbooks should fully accommodate students'diverse needs and individual development,balancing structural integrity with functional utility to prevent becoming mere tools for exam preparation and rote memorization.Educators must recognize their intermediary role,implementing scientific guidance to steer students from inadequate understanding and improper use toward comprehensive comprehension and effective application of textbooks.
