Abstract

In order to study phenolic components of Rosmarinus officinalis L.leaves,the 80%ethanol extract of rosemary leaves was subjected to separation and purification,and the structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(NMR).The most abundant compound,compound 1 was then evaluated for its effects on type 2 diabetes in a rat model induced by high sugar and high-fat diet combined with chemical induction.The Results showed that A total of 7 pheonolic compounds were obtained from the ethanol extract.They were identified as carnosic acid(1),columbaridione(2),atuntzensin A(3),7-α-methoxyrosmanol(4),7-β-methoxyrosmanol(5),rosmaqunione B(6),and 5-hydroxy-7,4'-dimethoxy flavone(7).Compounds 2 and 3 were isolated from rosemary for the first time.Compared to the model group,compound 1 was shown to reduce fasting blood glucose and increase insulin sensitivity.It also notably reduced collagen fiber content and deposition in the myocardium and blood vessels,hereby improving aortic vascular remodeling and myocardial fibrosis.The protective effects of compound 1 against diabetes-induced myocardial and vascular injury were reported for the first time.
