The Historical Examination and Social Implications of the Name Changes of Preschool Education Institutions in China

Abstract

Based on the perspective of the history of educational concepts,this study starts with the explicit names of preschool education institutions in China,and gradually analyzes their implicit concepts in combination with the corresponding specific historical background of pre-school education practice,demonstrating the mutual relationship between name changes and con-notation evolution.Overall,the name of preschool education institution in China have undergone four major changes:in 1904,they went from simply copying Japan's"Youzhi Yuan"to renaming themselves as"Mengyang Yuan",which was actually a difficult balance between imitating learn-ing and adhering to tradition;The renaming from"Mengyang Yuan"to"Mengyang Garden"in 1912 was a small attempt to move from being affiliated to being exclusive;The renaming from"Mengyang Garden"to"Youzhi Yuan"in 1922 was a major step in both eliminating diseases and promoting innovation.It not only broke through the old problems of preschool education at that time,but also made efforts to localize and scientize preschool education.The renaming from"Youzhi Yuan"to"Youer Yuan"in 1951 symbolized a renewed shift in political and educational systems and knowledge concepts.The positioning of the names of preschool education institutions intuitively reflects the positioning of the education system,the choice of names deeply reflects the support of cultural values,and the source of the names directly exposes the discipline of discourse power,which not only confirms that the core driving force of conceptual reconstruction is the polit-ical and religious system,cultural trends,and strong discourse,but also clearly reflects three sig-nificant social implications:firstly,the ladder climbing of educational system empowerment,the close linkage between name changes and educational system evolution,and has become a symbol of the transformation of the national education system;Secondly,the layered shaping of cultural trends and name changes are deeply influenced by the surging and erosion of dominant cultural trends during specific periods,becoming key products engraved in education and cultural thought;Thirdly,the dilemma of the oscillation of the discourse core and the constant collision of name changes between local traditional educational discourse and foreign educational paradigms and concepts have become important manifestations of the discourse game between ideology and edu-cational philosophy.
