Abstract

[Objective]To investigate the level of nutrition literacy among high school students in a district of Hangzhou,identify potential influencing factors,and provide references for the implementation of targeted food education to improve the nutritional status of high school students in China.[Method]A total of 2 386 high school students from eight public high schools(four general high schools and four vocational high schools)in a district of Hangzhou were selected by a typical sampling method to carry out an online questionnaire survey.[Result]The overall score for nutrition literacy among high school students was 70.0(63.5,77.0),with 17.0%scoring≥80.Food education courses and experiences with food education activities had significant impacts on the four dimensions of nutrition literacy:knowledge and concepts related to food and nutrition,food selection,food preparation,and food consumption.Factors such as age,gender,school type,the identity of the primary guardian,and the educational level of the primary guardian also had varying degrees of influence.[Conclusion]There is significant potential for improving nutrition literacy among high school students,particularly those in vocational schools.Food education plays a positive role in enhancing students'nutrition literacy across multiple dimensions.
