"Cheng,Pu,Qin,Yong":Lu Muzhai's Modern Educational Activities and the Character of Tianjin Educators

Abstract
Lu Muzhai is a representative figure of modern gentlemen scholars engaging in education.During the new policies of the late Qing Dynasty,he served as the director of the education office of Zhili Province,the chief inspector of education of Zhili Province,and the chief inspector of education of Fengtian,where he promoted the abolition of the imperial examinations,reformed educational administration,and advanced modern education.He established over a hundred modern schools in Beijing,Tianjin,Hebei,Liaoning,and Hubei,playing a vital role in the implementation of the Guimao School System.After the establishment of the Republic of China,Lu resided in Tianjin and Beijing,supporting education with his business earnings.He established the Muzhai Education Foundation,created the Muzhai series of schools,and the Nankai and Peiping Muzhai libraries.His personal academic achievements also flowed into education.Looking at Lu muzhai's educational activities spanning nearly a century,the"Muzhai education spirit"of"honesty,simplicity,diligence,and courage"embodies the fusion of the characters of traditional gentleman scholars and modern vocational educators,highlighting the vitality and driving force of the confucian education spirit in the process of China's educational modernization transformation.关键词
