摘要
Abstract
Rousseau's portrayal of Sophie in Emile has long been taken as an emblem of his gender conservatism,especially for its emphasis on feminine gentleness,submissiveness,and domestic duties.Yet Sophie is not merely a passive subordinate;rather,she serves as an indispensable ethical pivot in Rousseau's program of natural education.The gender-differentiated education she receives enables her to sustain order and nurture virtue within the family.Through his relationship with Sophie,Emile transforms sexual desire into love,cultivating reason and responsibility,and ultimately progressing from natural man to citizen.The erotic bond shaped by sexual difference is neither domination nor subordination,but an ethical order of reciprocity and mutual fulfillment.This relationship not only grounds the happiness of the family but also provides a pre-ethical foundation for Rousseau's political community.Sophie's educational experience thus reveals the generative power of the other in relational education and offers a suggestive perspective for rethinking contemporary women's education.关键词
